Can I Receive Incontinence Products Through West Virginia Medicaid?

West Virginia Medicaid recipients may qualify to receive a combination of the following:

  • Adult Pull-Ups / Pull-Ons,
  • Adult Briefs (Adult Diapers),
  • Disposable Underpads, And
  • Bladder Control Pads (Poise Pads). 

The following is required to approve incontinence supplies under West Virginia’s Medicaid program:

  • Documented proof within the last six months that the items are considered medically necessary by a physician.
  • Must be enrolled in a West Virginia Medicaid plan.
  • Must have a qualifying medical need, such as a spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, autism, etc.
  • The estimated amount of supplies needed per day (i.e., three pairs of protective underwear per day).
  • The medical reason for needing supplies (certificate of medical necessity).

What Is West Virginia Medicaid?

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Medical Services (BMS), is the designated single state agency responsible for administering the State’s Medicaid program. BMS provides access to appropriate health care for Medicaid-eligible individuals.

To be eligible for West Virginia Medicaid, you must be:

  • A resident of the state of West Virginia,
  • A U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien in need of health care/insurance assistance,
  • Whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or meager income.

You must also be one of the following:

  • Pregnant, or
  • Be responsible for a child 18 years of age or younger, or
  • Blind, or
  • Have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or
  • Be 65 years of age or older.
