Can I Receive Incontinence Supplies Through Tennessee Medicaid?

Tennessee currently provides incontinence products as one of the medically necessary items under its Medicaid coverage.

With Tennessee Medicaid, you may qualify to receive every month a combination of the following:

  • Protective Underwear,
  • Briefs,
  • Disposable Underpads, And
  • Bladder Control Pads.

To be approved for incontinence supplies under Tennessee Medicaid, the following is required:

  • Must be enrolled in a Tennessee Medicaid plan.
  • Must have a qualifying medical need, such as diabetes or autism.
  • The number of supplies needed per day.
  • The medical reason for needing supplies.

What Is Tennessee Medicaid?

TennCare is the state of Tennessee’s Medicaid program. It provides healthcare to primarily low-income pregnant women, parents or caretakers of a minor child, children, and individuals who are elderly or have a disability. To get Medicaid, you must meet the income and resource limits. You can apply anytime for TennCare.

Several different groups may qualify. Some groups limit how much you own your “resources,” like bank accounts, cars, and land.

Some of the groups TennCare Medicaid covers are:

  • Children under the age of 21
  • Individuals who need treatment for breast or cervical cancer
  • Parents or caretakers of a minor child (The child must live with you and be a close relative.)
  • People who get an SSI check (Supplemental Security Income)
  • People who have gotten both an SSI check and a Social Security check in the same month at least once since April 1977 AND who still get a Social Security check
  • Women who are pregnant

A person who:

  • Gets other long-term care services that TennCare pays for
  • Lives in a medical institution, like a nursing home, and has income below $2,523 per month, or

To be eligible for Tennessee Medicaid, you must be:

  • A resident of the state of Tennessee,
  • A U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance,
  • And to Individuals with meager incomes or low incomes.

You must also be one of the following:

  • Pregnant, or
  • Be responsible for a child 21 years of age or younger, or
  • Blind, or
  • Have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or
  • Be 65 years of age or older.
